Maidenhead Junior Men Win Second National Title

08-03-13 raceIn torrential rain at Eton Dorney on 8th March, the club's J15 quad won a convincing victory at the Oarsport National Junior Sculling Head.

The crew of Patrick Sadd, Sam Hoxley, Alasdair Butler, and Henry Bennett, coxed by Henry's sister Eliza, raced over the 2 lengths of Dorney Lake in a time of 12:51, 15 seconds faster than Westminster School and 28 seconds ahead of Windsor Boys School, the silver and bronze medalists. Crews were started in an apparently random order on a congested lake, so the boys had to fight their way through slow-moving quads and octos expertly guided by Eliza's coxing.

National Schools Regatta - Junior crews win 1 Gold and 1 Bronze medal

img1Maidenhead Rowing Club entered 16 crews into this National Schools Regatta held at the National Water sports Centre, Nottingham.

This event attracts all the top rowing/sculling schools in the country and it was good to see the Maidenhead crews competing and learning how to be competitive.

The format of the events started with processional races over a 1k course on the Friday and processional races on the Saturday & Sunday over 1,750mtrs. Most of the events were over subscribed so the young Maidenhead crews had to race over the course in a head format and only the first 18 crews qualified for the semi-finals.

Crews then had to finish in the first 2 positions in each of the three semi-finals to qualify for the finals to compete for a medal.

Fridays racing saw the Maidenhead junior crews achieve mixed success resulting in two medal winning crews.
